Skin cancer is a type of cancer which has many signs and symptoms.  This site discusses general skin cancer warning signs as well as skin cancer warning signs for Basal Cell, Squamous Cell and Melanoma.

The most well-known skin cancer warning is a transformation or addition in skin growths (like moles) or sores that do not heal and in fact get larger.  In the event you discover protuberances which tend to be smooth, shiny and also waxy in appearance, or is a variety of colors (like brown, red, purple, green, etc). If you think you have any growths that have changed in a short amount of time or that have suddenly appeared get to your doctor ASAP.

Below you can find skin cancer warning signs for each individual type of skin cancer.  Here are some pictures of skin cancer if you’re curious as to what each type of skin cancer looks like.

Basal Cell Carcinoma
-the most common warning sign for basal cell skin cancer is an open sore that will not heal after 1 month.
-a crusty sore that stays that way.
-an irritated area (like a rug burn) that doesn’t heal.
-a soft growth that has an raised, rolled edge along with an dimple within the middle. When the growth gradually grows larger, little blood vessels may possibly grow upon the surface.
-a bright bump/nodule that’s pearly or perhaps clear and is usually pinkish, red and/or white. The nodule may even be a light tan or a dark brown.
-scar like tissue with undefined edges and is usually yellow in color.  The skin around it is usually shiny and/or tight.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (most of the symptoms below are the same as the Basal Cell carcinoma)
-Crusty area with some inflamation that does not heal after 1 month
-Ulcerated sore on the bottom lip that does not heal
-quickly growing growth that resembles a wart
-any sore that will not heal after 30 days
-red areas of the skin (patches) that are crusty, bump or scaly

Melanoma

-look at all the moles on your body.  If any are not completely round or oval you should have your doctor look at these.
-moles that have jagged or blurred edges (looks like someone dropped a black drop of ink on your skin) are a tell tale sign of melanoma.
-moles and/or growths that have more than 1 color.  For example, one side of the mole is dark brown and the other side is light brown.  Other colors that have been observed include red, black, blue and green.
-moles that have suddenly grown in size and shape in a short period of time.  It’s a good idea to have your doctor check out anything larger than a pencil eraser.
-moles that may seem overally itchy.
-moles that leak fluid or blood.
-moles that are painful either to the touch or not to the touch.
-dark spots under or around the nail.
